From the Vicar
I don’t know whether it’s true or not, but I’ve always liked the story about the three-year-old who really got into his role as the inn-keeper in his nursery school’s nativity play. Rather than turning Mary and Joseph away when they came to the door, he greeted them with a grin and beckoned to them, saying, ‘Come on in, there’s loads of room!’.
So yes, it does put a different gloss on a significant element of the story. But then again, there isn’t an inn-keeper in the Bible version anyway. What’s for sure is that God’s love is for everyone and the message of Christmas really is ‘Come on in, there’s loads of room!’.
Christmas services at St John the Baptist Church are an opportunity to come on in, and that’s an invitation for everyone, whether you live in Shedfield, Shirrell Heath or Waltham Chase, and whether you come to church every week, every so often or not at all. One way or another, there’ll be something for everyone, ranging from the traditional Lessons and Carols by Candlelight on Sunday 22nd December and the ever-popular Christingle service on Christmas Eve (with a chocolate-themed story this year) to early morning communion and family-friendly services on Christmas Day.
All of us in the ministry team send you every good wish for a happy Christmas and a peaceful new year. xxx
